ARCHIVED CONTENT: In December 2020, the CZO program was succeeded by the Critical Zone Collaborative Network (CZ Net) ×

Research Community

The primary avenue for CZO education of research peers is through national meetings.

The CZOs include a staffed booth in the exhibit hall at the annual meeting of the American Geophysical Union and have also presented booth exhibits at the annual meetings of the Geological Society of America, Soil Science Society of America, Ecological Society of America, and the Goldschmidt Conference.

The CZOs also regularly communicate with and engage over 1000 members of the Critical Zone Exploration Network (www.czen.org)

The back wall banner for the CZO booth displays a schematic representation of the interplay between the atmosphere, hydrosphere, biosphere and lithosphere as well as the range of spatial scales of observation required to fully characterize and understand Critical Zone processes.

2017 CZO Webinar Series: Critical Zone and Society

    All Disciplines

    Video

Watch six science lectures that highlight the importance of the Critical Zone on society and environmental sustainability. Many topics are discussed including soil degradation, drought resilience, water security, flooding, landslides, wildfire, ecosystem services, public policy, and more.

    Educational Objectives

Viewers will be able to discuss the aspects of the CZ vulnerable to the presence of humanity, and how they may be altered due to global climate and land-use change.
