Mac Callaham’s group presents at the Society for Freshwater Science annual meeting
Mac Callaham and his group shared their research on earthworms at the May 2019 Society for Freshwater Science annual meeting in Salt Lake City. The presentations documented their work with sparganophilid earthworms at Calhoun and other SRS Experimental Forests (Hitchiti and Scull Shoals, specifically). The Sparganophilidae are a group of native North American earthworms that have been overlooked by both soil ecologists and freshwater ecologists, partly due to the fact that they live right at the edges of lakes and streams in sediments that are saturated at least part of the time.
