Conceptual Models

Understanding critical zone architecture lies at the center of research in Boulder Creek CZO.  Topography, soils, weathered rock, and ecosystems develop through weathering, erosion, and ecological processes over time.  The CZ architecture inherited from that history then impacts current function as a hydrologic, biogeochemical, and sediment producing system.

10Be on hillslopes

Models of 10Be on hillslopes require acknowledgement of transport within the mobile regolith
Cosmogenic radionuclide concentrations in hillslopes evolve by production, decay, and lateral transport of nuclides in regolith.
