A How-to Guide to Collaborative Research with a U.S. Critical Zone Observatory
  1. Begin with a hypothesis-driven science question or novel educational activity that could effectively be addressed in a CZO or cross-CZO context.
  2. Utilize online information about existing research and education opportunities, data, infrastructure, etc. at the CZOs
    • some data are publicly online, but other data associated with work in progress may require further inquiry with a PI
  3. Communicate with the appropriate CZO PI
    • provide information regarding timing, data, space, field needs
  4. If the activity involves more than one CZO, also communicate with the CZO national office
  5. Write and submit a proposal to an appropriate NSF directorate or other funding agency/source
