My research group focuses on understanding the ecohydrological implications of environmental and climatic change on semiarid ecosystem functioning. In particular, we examine leaf, soil, and whole-ecosystem carbon and water dynamics in areas undergoing vegetative change through woody plant encroachment and in montane forests characterized by complex terrain. Our work involves an interdisciplinary approach for extensive field sampling, ecosystem monitoring, and cross-scale modeling efforts.
