During the week of May 19, five faculty members interested in Critical Zone science traveled to Northfield, MN to participate in an InTeGrate workshop to develop college curricula. The interdisciplinary team consisted of Tim White (team leader), Susquehanna Shale Hills CZO; Martha Conklin, Southern Sierra CZO; Jim Washburne, Jemez-Catalina CZO; Susan Gill, Christina River Basin CZO; and Adam Hoffman, University of Dubuque. Bill McDowell from Luquillo is also part of the team, although he was unable to attend the meeting.

Together, the team will develop all of the content of the course as well as all course materials and assessments. Once InTeGrate personnel review the course, each CZO team member will teach it and collect data on what worked and what didn’t work. All will reassemble next year to finalize the course content, which will be posted on the InTeGrate website for other faculty to use.

InTeGrate (Interdisciplinary Teaching of Geoscience For a Sustainable Future) is funded by a 5-year STEP (STEM Talent Expansion Program) Center grant from the National Science Foundation and is based at Carleton College’s Science Education Resource Center. The program is a collaboration between faculty in the sciences and other discipline, educational specialists, and evaluation experts at a diverse group of institutions. Learn more about InTeGrate.
