Conference Description
The workshop will focus on a theme of "Towards a Sustainable Urbanization" as an inheritance from the first workshop theme of "Ecological and Environmental Responses". The IWUW 2016 is organized by the Key Laboratory of Urban Environment and Health, Institute of Urban Environment, Chinese Academy of Sciences and will be held on October 26-28, 2016 in Xiamen, China, one of the United Nation’s Livable Cities.
Over half of world’s population is living in urban areas by 2014 (Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations). It is assumed that the degradation of the environment with urbanization simultaneously alters biogeochemical processes in the intra-urban ecosystem and surroundings. The 1st International Workshop on Urbanization in Watersheds (IWUW 2014) proposed to study the ecological and environmental responses to urbanization using the watershed approach, the gradient approach, and their combination. Urban watersheds with intensive human impacts have become an important critical zone (CZ) in the world. Environmental degradation that was an obstacle for developed countries in the past century is now onerous also in developing countries. This workshop aims to become a platform of knowledge exchanges and experience shared among scientists, scholars, and graduates from developed and developing countries.
The academic committee of the 2nd International Workshop on Urbanization in Watersheds invites you to join us on October 26-28, 2016 in Xiamen, China.
