CLIMATE SCIENCE IN ALASKA: SPECIAL DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING AT LOFT CINEMA

The Loft Cinema

The documentary film BETWEEN EARTH AND SKY follows the work of soil scientists in Alaska who study the “permafrost,” the soil that is permanently frozen. They track the changes in the permafrost as it thaws, and measure the consequences as carbon that has been stored in the soil for thousands of years is released to the atmosphere. At a screening sponsored by the University of Arizona, this award-winning film will be shown at the Loft Cinema on Tuesday, September 12, 7:30pm. The film will be followed by a panel discussion with UA scientists, including Dr. Joseph Blankinship, UA Assistant Professor and soil biogeochemist; Moira Hough, PhD candidate  in the UA  Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; and Dr. Craig Rasmussen, UA Professor of Environmental Pedology whose research connects with soil, climate change, and the arctic permafrost.
