Science Days @ Shaver Lake

EDUCATION/OUTREACH

Camp Edison Group Picnic Areas, Shaver Lake, CA

Every year, SSCZO participate in Edison Science Days. Elementary and middle school students visit different stations about nature and science. At the Southern Sierra CZO booth, students learn about our projects in the Sierra National Forest, where we study the role of the hydrologic cycle in the ecosystem. Past activities have focused on regional scales, like the water cycle of California, and smaller scales, like the water cycle of a single tree. That tree is our heavily instrumented CZ-Tree 1 in the Providence Creek headwaters.

At Edison Science Days in 2012, Allyson Smith shows the water vapor that gathered in a plastic bag - water transpired by the tree.
