For five weeks in October and November, 4th and 5th grade students participated in an after-school science club where they learned about critical zone science as part of a CZO-related project.
Students examined sediments retrieved in various locations within their school yard to determine soil texture and see how the soil samples reflect the vegetation and topography where they were collected.
Their data sheets show their enthusiasum for the subject, with detailed drawings of soil profiles and one child's description of a garden soil sample as smelling "good enough to eat."
View the children's data sheets with drawings and list of "treasures" found in the samples.
