Rutgers University in Newark has a long and proud tradition of providing a first-rate education to students of modest means, to first-generation college attendees, and to students of diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Our diverse student body, relatively small classes, tradition of academic excellence as well as the educational opportunities of Newark and nearby New York City, have attracted a growing student body, which has increased by 3000 students in less than a decade. As the Rutgers-Newark enrollments grow, we will continue to insure that we remain accessible to large numbers of first-generation college students. Newark College of Arts and Sciences (NCAS), which enrolls more than 60 percent of the undergraduates at Rutgers–Newark and is the largest of seven schools on campus. NCAS offers majors in nearly 40 fields in the arts and humanities, sciences, and social sciences
