Over the last 18 months the legacy sediment (LS) profiles of Holcombe's Branch have been sampled and analyzed for texture, color, and chemically characterized as well. Fluvially deposited legacy sediments are on the order of 1-m in depth and may occupy somewhat less than 10% of the watershed's area. Buried soil profiles have been described, including a number with paleo-A horizons, and a first-order estimate of buried LS organic carbon averages about 4.57 kg carbon per square meter (CV 31.7%) with an additional 2.5 kg carbon per square meter in pre-legacy sediments.
