Geology Prof. Paul Schroeder (Calhoun CZO) from the University of Georgia is on sabbatical in Turkey and sponsored by the TÜBITAK visiting scholar program. He is based at Istanbul Technical University for the year and has been giving seminars on critical zone science throughout Turkey including a talk at Nevsehir University that is online (see link below). Schroeder's ambition is to stimulate critical zone science observatories to include and feature multi-millennial anthropogenic forcings. Middle Eastern landscapes such as those in Turkey have under the longest known influence of continuous and dense human occupation, lasting for the past several thousand years.
