Current Research: I will measure CO2 flux and O2 flux along two established catenas and eventually a third catena of the proposal. The catenas are in a forest catchment on shale, a forest catchment on sandstone, and an agricultural catchment on calcareous shale. We will measure the exchange of gases using automated CO2 and O2 sensors, along with soil gas tubes at several depths in the soil profile. This work will help identify the imprint of biota on acid- and redox-weathering as hypothesized in our CZO proposal (Hypothesis 2 – CZO Grant)]. Research Interests: O2 and CO2 flux, carbon and nitrogen soil comparison across rock types (sandstone and shale), plant-soil-bedrock interactions and nutrient availability, and fertilization studies.
