New this Year: Educators from state parks around Pennsylvania traveled to Shale Hills (Wednesday, April 20th) for a half day introduction to Critical Zone science and the interdisciplinary research under investigation in the observatory. The trip was part of the state of PA Annual Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) Workshop for Environmental Educators. It was the first time the workshop visited the CZO. Fifteen educators from 14 of the state’s 121 parks attended. Geologic setting, historical tectonic processes, and modern hydrology were discussed during the tour through the watershed. The instrumentation utilized by the various research groups was demonstrated, and there was lively discussions of the observed springtime biota.
