Kumar's research focus is in the areas of systems and computational biology, as part of the Department of Bioengineering. Research in her group is highly interdisciplinary, using computational genomics, bioinformatics, data mining, evolutionary, and systems biology approaches to study complex neurological diseases, pathogen/microbiome metabolic network modeling, and computational evolutionary biology.
