Youth from Petersburg Bethel Presbyterian Church learn “What’s in the water?”

On Sunday after services, members from the SSHCZO met with two youth groups from Petersburg Bethel Church to teach about water quality.  The church, located near the outlet of the Shaver’s Creek watershed, granted the CZO, in 2014, permissions to use their property for equipment deployment, thus garnering interest from the congregation.  Team members, Beth Hoagland (PhD Candidate in Geosciences) and Brandon Forsythe (Watershed Specialist), spent a couple of hours with the youth discussing the CZO, the solar panel, the water quality sensors, and how to measure discharge in Shaver’s Creek.  In conclusion, a few take home messages were given on environmental stewardship and how to protect our streams.
