Summer REU/RET students expand sampling protocols to include methane

Three summer students join with Earth and Environmental Systems Institute scientists to learn water quality field sampling techniques.  Two of the participants, Tarek Bob (Texas A&M) and Kris Raybon (Georgia State), are collecting water samples from surface waters around Pennsylvania.  Specifically, those samples will be analyzed for methane concentrations.   The scientists are investigating the abundance of methane in Pennsylvania streams, particularly waterways near well pads.

Brandon Forsythe instructs the REU/RETs on how to use the FlowTracker to measure stream discharge.

Water qualtiy samples are collected and ready for filtering from the Black Moshannon Creek.
