Summer research experience for teachers provided hands-on activities to learn about Critical Zone science. The two teachers were paired with mentors just like their undergraduate counterparts (REUs), only with additional opportunities. For their research, Sharon Dykhoff and Siobhan Donnelly engaged on projects such as water quality and root dynamics in the critical zone, respectfully. In addition, the two were charged with the opportunity to create a virtual field experience (VFE) for Shale Hills and highlighted the tools, their project, and the experience at a teacher workshop focused on the critical zone.
