Introduction to TeenShale Network draws 28 student participants

For the 2015-2016 academic year, researchers at Penn State provided the program introduction at State College Area High to 28 student Learning Enrichment science students.  The group of novice investigators ranges from 8th graders to juniors (3rd year participants) who will continue monitoring water quality parameters along the Black Moshannon Creek, previously established in the second and third years of the project.  From talks on geology and geochemistry of central PA to an overview of hydraulic fracturing and potential environmental impacts, the students were provided insights to previous hypotheses and data collections.  Field sampling campaigns will commence mid-October on a bi-weekly schedule and the project will culminate with student analyses of some samples collected during the April 2016 visit of the Pitt Mobile Science Laboratory.
