Penn State alum, Dr. Morgan Minyard (2010), and her colleague with the Department of Defense’s Defense Threat Reduction Agency expand an ongoing soil partitioning study to include the Ernest silt loam from the Shale Hills catchment. The team collected A horizon soils from the valley floor to investigate the organic carbon content, soil texture, pH, and other characteristics to determine the sorption of and the partitioning coefficients for specific compounds of interest. Data collected will inform the DOD on best practices for soil remediation efforts.
