General CZO Interests: Tree root, mycorrhizal fungi, and lithology interactions Research Brief: I will determine deep root and mycorrhizal fungi community structure near shale and sandstone using minirhizotron and soil core samples. We will then extract DNA from these samples for sequencing in order to identify species. This work will help determine the effects of lithology on mycorrhizal interactions within the root ecology of the CZO (Hypothesis 3).
